Arrear? - Students must re-register, reappear
The
Anna University has done away with the system of arrears from the
current academic year. Instead, students would have to re-register and
reappear for exams they had not passed in a semester, when the subject
is offered next.
The students must, however, appear for all the internal tests held for the subject through the semester and may sit in a class when the subject is being taught if they wish, but it is not compulsory. The rule comes into force in all affiliated colleges from the current academic year that starts on September 1, said T.V. Geetha, Dean, College of Engineering.
Meanwhile, the University has relaxed norms for candidates who wish to take a year’s break during their course work. To encourage students to do better and study at their own pace, they would be allowed to drop a course to a maximum of six credits from the third to the eighth semester.

As per the new system, the students have to redo the internal exam.

New Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)
Anna University's academic council on Wednesday gave its approval to replace the existing arrears system with the reappearance registration system for engineering courses from this academic year.The university also introduced the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for affiliated engineering colleges along with the new syllabus.
It also brought another key change in engineering education which allows the students to drop the two subjects (up to six credits) in a semester or study two subjects in advance.
“It will allow the students to study at their own pace. If the students feeling they can't study two difficult subjects in a semester they can study it later. If the bright students feel they can study two more subjects they can do it. If they finish their entire credits in advance, they can go for the full internship or do project work for six months in the 8th semester,” she explained.
At the same time, a student will not be allowed to register for more than 36 credits in a semester including the failed courses.
To prevent the students from accumulating the arrears, the University has put a cap of 3. The students can take one year break to work in the industry or to go for an internship.”The period to get the first class with distinction is being extended to five years from four years.
The students should have got cumulative grade point average (CGPA) not less than 8.50 and should have passed in all the courses in the eight semesters,” T.V.Geetha said. They can also get first class if they finish the course within six years.
The new syllabus has replaced the C, C++ with advanced programming language Python in the first year. “The industry wants that the engineering students to have knowledge of Python. So, we have replaced the C, C++ programme language,” she added. Among other initiatives, students can pursue value added courses which is over and above the total credit requirements and they can also get credits for doing online courses.
But, the students who pursue online courses will get credits only after evaluation through end semester examinations. The employability enhancement courses like the internship, summer project, case study, industrial training were all brought as part of the new curriculum.

பொறியியல் கல்லூரியில் சேரும் மாணவர்கள் அனைவரும் முதலாம் ஆண்டு 'சி'
புரோகிராமிங் மொழி குறித்த பாடத்தைப் படிக்கிறார்கள். இனி, இந்த ஆண்டு
முதல் முதலாம் ஆண்டில் 'சி' புரோகிராமிங் பாடத்துக்கு பதிலாக 'பைதான்
(Python) புரோகிராமிங் பாடத்தை அறிமுகப்படுத்துகிறார்கள்.
வேதியியல் பாடம் விருப்பப் பாடமாகிறது:
முதலாவது மற்றும் இரண்டாவது செமஸ்டரில் வேதியியல் பாடத்தை கட்டாயப் பாடமாக
படிக்கிறார்கள் மாணவர்கள். இனி, முதல் செமஸ்டரில் மட்டும் வேதியியல்
முதன்மை பாடங்களில் ஒன்றாக இருக்கும். இரண்டாவது செமஸ்டரில்
விருப்பப்பாடங்களில் ஒன்றாக மாற்றி இருக்கிறார்கள். இதனால், இரண்டாவது
செமஸ்டரில் வேதியியல் பாடம் கண்டிப்பாகப் படிக்க வேண்டிய அவசியம்
கிடையாது.
எட்டாவது செமஸ்டர் பாடங்களை முன்னரே படிக்க வாய்ப்பு:
மாணவர்கள் ஆறு செமஸ்டர் வரை அனைத்துப் பாடத்திலும் தேர்ச்சி பெற்று,
ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக 7.5 கிரேடு பாயின்ட்களைப் போற்றிருந்தால், எட்டாவது செமஸ்டர்
பாடத்தை ஏழாவது செமஸ்டரிலேயே படிக்க வாய்ப்பு வழங்கப்படும். எட்டாவது
செமஸ்டரில் திட்டப்பணிகளை மட்டும் செய்தால் போதுமானது.
படித்து முடித்து மூன்று ஆண்டுகள் தேர்ச்சி பெற வேண்டும்: பொறியியல் படிப்பில் சேர்ந்து பதினான்கு செமஸ்டர்களுக்குள் அனைத்துப்
பாடங்களிலும் தேர்ச்சி பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும். லேட்டரல் முறையில்
சேர்பவர்கள் 12 செமஸ்டர்களின் அனைத்துப் பாடங்களிலும் தேர்ச்சி பெற
வேண்டும்.
முதல் வகுப்பில் தேர்ச்சி:
ஐந்து ஆண்டுக்குள் எல்லாத் தேர்வுகளையும் முதல் முறையிலேயே தேர்ச்சி
பெற்றும், ஒட்டுமொத்த மதிப்பெண் புள்ளி 8.5-க்கு குறைவில்லாமல் இருந்தால்
முதல் வகுப்பில் Distinction-யுடன் தேர்ச்சி பெற்றிருக்கிறீர்கள் என்று
பட்டம் வழங்கப்படும். ஆறு ஆண்டுக்குள் அனைத்துப் பாடத்திலும் தேர்ச்சி
பெற்று ஒட்டுமொத்த மதிப்பெண் புள்ளியில் 7.0-க்கு குறைவில்லாமல்
பெற்றிருந்தால் முதல் வகுப்பில் தேர்ச்சி பெற்றிருக்கிறீர்கள் என்று பட்டம்
வழங்கப்படும்.
